3D Pathway - Lovecraft Inspired Monster

After speaking with my tutors I have chosen to take a different route for my assessment piece. Scraping the Creature from the Black Lagoon, I looked back to my first year when I painted this tentacled creature:

I decided to continue this design and came up with some sketches based on the original:

I picked the one on the top left, as I felt it was the most striking. I painted it over the weekend and ended up with this:

I then produced a character turnaround so that I can begin the modelling process this week:

3D Pathway - Decisions, Decisions...

I've chosen to create a character for my 3D pathway. However I've been torn between working on a character of my own design, or to go with a character that already exists, just not in a game.

Here I've been exploring making a creature of my own design. It's based on a creature I drew in first year, a Lovecraft inspired tentacle beast.

I had also looked at creating the Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D. To aid me, I've taken references and made sketches of the creature.

I then painted a front and side reference guide in Photoshop to aid me if I should chose to model the beast.

Games Production - Initial Ideas

New term, new game. My team and I have settled on creating a 3rd person sci-fi adventure game called New Eden. My role will be assistant environment artist and GUI artist. Here are some preliminary sketches I've created for the project in terms of environment and GUI.

3D Pathway - Photo-Bashing

It was our first 3D Pathway lesson yesterday, and we explored the start of the process to create a character from scratch. Using layers, masking, and some paint, I turned my reference image...

Into this:

We also took a quick look at constructing a face in Maya, using references for the front and side. We started with the eyes and lips and then carried on with the face, back of the head and finally the neck.
